The Moving Thread is a curated choreography festival presented by Laya Arts Collective, bringing together artists and movement traditions in an evening of exploration, storytelling, and creative exchange.
At the heart of the festival is a simple idea: tradition is not static—it moves, evolves, and takes on new meaning through each artist who carries it forward.
Featuring original works by choreographers from a range of classical, folk, contemporary, and culturally rooted dance practices, The Moving Thread creates a space for artists to experiment while remaining connected to the histories, communities, and stories that shape their movement.
This inaugural edition brings together an exceptional group of artists, each offering a distinct choreographic voice and perspective:
Pooja Ganesh presenting Taal Tarang
Vidyalatha Jeerage presenting MADHU MADHURYA
Ashwini Srivatsan, presenting Bhanika
Priya Narayana and SomaShekar presenting Krishna Charitamrutha
Through their individual explorations, these artists invite audiences to experience the richness of tradition and the possibilities of contemporary choreographic expression.
Each work offers a different perspective, but together they form a shared thread—connecting past and present, individual and community, tradition and innovation.
Many traditions. One stage. A shared future.
Join us for an evening that celebrates the artists, stories, and movement practices that continue to shape our communities.
